War Party / Movie

War party / movie Customer Review: I’d love to see this with the “alternate” ending!
It is my understanding that this movie was filmed with another ending, which was in the original script. The “other” ending has the Governor surrendering to the Tribe. Of course, it ended up on the editing room floor. How about a DVD with this ending? Are you listening Corporate America?

Revisiting the Vietnam war era
by Steve Hammons The draft, casualties and the Kent State shootings With the Iraq war continuing, the lists of dead and wounded getting longer and protests about the war growing stronger, it seems like time to revisit that era. A key event during the Vietnam war period was the Kent State University shootings a little over thirty-five years ago. For those too young to remember or for those who didn’t think it was important enough to pay attention to, on May 4, 1970, Ohio National Guard troops opened fire on students at Kent State. Four students were killed and nine wounded. Some of the students were protesting, some were just standing around, one was an ROTC cadet. The National Guard had been called out by Ohio Governor James A. Rhodes after many state universities in Ohio and nationwide had been rocked by anti-Vietnam war protests that spring. Then Rhodes shut down the campuses of the state universities and students went home early that spring. The Vietnam war had been raging for several years by then. The death toll of American troops had not yet reached the final tally of over 58,000, but it was climbing day by day. American troops were returning home severely injured and many were traumatized by what they had experienced in Vietnam. Young men from age 18 into their mid-twenties were being drafted against their will into the Army, under threat of prison sentences if they did not comply. Interestingly, many of the National Guard troops who were deployed at Kent State may have joined the Guard to avoid being drafted to Vietnam.

An urgent task for the new Congress
by Steve Hammons New Congress must conduct necessary inquiries and investigations properly With many indicators pointing to Democratic victory in taking over the House of Representatives and possibly the Senate, Americans are wondering if proper inquiries about alleged wrongdoing in recent years will proceed. Many responsible Americans seem to want any investigations or proceedings to be conducted in a reasonable, appropriate and responsible manner. Congressional actions, including advocating for independent prosecutors, might shed light on the many questions about significant circumstances that began before the 9/11 attacks and continue today, some people claim. In fact, many Americans seem to base their current views of who to vote for on serious concerns about events and situations that may have not yet been fully brought to light. AREAS FOR INVESTIGATION Some of these concerns and questions include the following: - Was intelligence information in the months, weeks and days before the 9/11 attacks acted on adequately and appropriately? And if not, why not? Were the 9/11 attacks in any way “allowed to happen” either through incompetence, negligence or other motivations, actions or inactions? - Were agents of foreign governments in any way involved in the 9/11 attacks or in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq? - Was deliberately false intelligence created to justify the invasion and occupation of Iraq? Was the Office of Special Plans one of these false-intelligence operations? - Was the invasion and occupation of Iraq an illegal “war of aggression” as defined by international law? - Are there additional cases of undiscovered war profiteering, fraud and corruption involved in the invasion and occupation of Iraq, as well in other areas of governmental activities? - Has there been criminal negligence by any government officials in the way the Iraq War has been conducted? Have deaths and injuries to our troops resulted? - Does the torture of suspects and prisoners constitute a war crime under U.S. and international law? - Is the electronic surveillance of Americans’ phone calls, e-mail and other private communications a violation of U.S. law? These are some of the issues that trouble many Americans. Proper and reasonable inquiries should be conducted, in the view of many people.

The Elections
by Charley Reese I don’t know if the Democrats will gain a majority in either the Senate or the House. I don’t think it is knowable. I hope they do, because the Republicans have proven that having control of the White House, the Senate and the House produces bad government. With today’s Republicans acting like their sole duty is to do whatever the president wants them to do, the system of checks and balances is destroyed. A president, especially one who doesn’t feel bound by the Constitution, needs a restraining hand. Even if the restraining hand is guided by partisan motives, it still acts as a restraint. Granted, the Democrats are no prize and are hardly distinguishable from the Republicans. Nevertheless, if they controlled either the Senate or the House, they could put the brakes on the president, even if it were for the basest of motives. I’m one of those people who thinks legislative deadlock is a good thing. Most legislation passed these days is bad legislation. The country would be better off if legislators didn’t pass any laws. The country would be greatly better off if they devoted a whole session to doing nothing but repealing bad laws. Many Americans have too much faith in government and in laws. Government is like a retarded giant - very powerful but stupid. Almost nothing government tries to do succeeds. Just looking back at the past few decades, it has - despite enormous expenditures - failed to find a cure for cancer, failed to stop illegal drugs, failed to stop illegal immigrants, failed to protect the American people from terrorists, failed to improve public education, failed to keep up with repairing the infrastructure, failed to eliminate the deficit, failed to eliminate the trade deficits, failed to curb inflation, etc., etc., and so forth.

Kissing Cousins, Staged Elections…
by Zen Garcia …and the False Left-Right Paradigm We are quickly approaching another midterm election year wherein active voters will head to the polls and wonder whether they still have the power to affect a positive change into American reality. The odds are stacked against us, simply because the GOP owns, controls, and distributes the no paper-unverifiable easily manipulated electronic voting machines, we use to determine elections. If you believe in our one vote one person electoral system then you absolutely must demand that the election system be made review able and accountable with a paper trail for voter verification. We are in danger of losing all hope if we do not step up soon to change the direction of this country. America is losing her allies one by one as world opinion shifts. We must get the Decider-in-Chief lackeys out of office this election cycle as this may well be our last chance to remove some of the Neo-con Hawks bent on furthering escalations in the Middle East into what would be the third Crusader war, a battle for world dominance and the control of the last remaining resources of the planet. America realizes now that the Bush administration is trying to lead America down the road of global conquest and eventual control of the world as stated in their Project for the New American Century document called “Rebuilding America’s Defenses”; if we continue to go the PNAC way, we will find our country immersed in multiple wars and too weak to offset those who really mean us harm. This document spells out their plan clearly - 9/11 was their spark, their call for a new Pearl Harbor to instigate this plan of global dominance and perpetual war. Written in 2000, they noted that “the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event — like a new Pearl Harbor.” Even Lou Dobbs from CNN, propaganda central, knows Bush cares nothing for America and has reported numerously on how Bush and globalist friends desire to bring us into a North American Union by surrendering America’s national sovereignty. It doesn’t matter whether you believe Bush is a globalist who supports the New World Order, one world government or not, the fact is that we are being forced into a Pan-American Union. So what to do to stop the globalists bent on destroying America? The real question remains - Who do we vote into Congress here in this country, that could bring down the Bush House of cards and affect true and positive change for all of the citizens of this nation, and maybe restore our connections, good will with the rest of the world? This is the greatest dilemma facing American voters, besides the no-paper-trail-easily rigged electronic voting machines. Who can we trust? We can’t trust the Republicans. They are proving themselves to be nothing more than Bush Administration lapdogs, willing to pass any piece of legislation, no matter how corrupt and offensive, just to hold the party line. We can’t trust the Democrats either, as they are nothing more than spineless, indecisive suck-ups that can’t even work together to oppose the greatest threat to our fragile democracy, George W. Bush. Outside of Russ Feingold and maybe a few others, Democrats aren’t even doing the job they ran for, namely upholding congressional powers to maintain the checks and balances intended by our founding fathers when they established a government of 3 equal branches necessary to preserve the Republic. Nancy Pelosi, who would be Speaker of the House if Democrats take over in November, all but ruled out launching impeachment hearings against President Bush, citing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” hosted by Tim Russert: “Democrats are not about impeachment - Democrats are about bringing the country together.” Asked about Conyers’ repeated calls for an impeachment investigation, Pelosi said, “I am the leader. Our caucus will decide where we’re going,” she declared. “I don’t see us going to a place of impeachment.” Since the Republicans and the Democrats obviously can’t or are unwilling to do their jobs, what shall we do when it is clear that Bush considers himself above the law as Commander-in-Chief and the maybe soon Speaker of the House Democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi won’t do her job to investigate the corruption of the current GOP Congress? With both parties having failed us, where do we as a nation wanting to end the war in Iraq and avoid a war with Iran, place our vote when both the Democrats and the Republicans are pro-the never ending war on terror and pro-stay the course?
